THE DAY MY HEART BROKE

I met the man I would marry in July,
Little did I know he would make me cry.
Things were great for the first three months,
Then he asked me to marry him.
The next thing you know we were standing in front of a judge,
Saying I do and then it was done.
My last name changed and so did my life,
I changed from a fiance into a wonderful wife.
I did everything I could to make his life complete,
But I soon found out that with his ex-girlfriends I could not compete.
He took me for granted and broke my heart,
I should have seen it right from the start.
Things got worse as they usually do,
The small town stories and rumors,
I didn't know what was a lie or the truth.
Then I found out the truth one rainy day,
I told him that I wouldn't stay.
He got mad and said "NO!"
Then he grabbed me by the arm and wouldn't let me go.
Finally he ran out of the Laundromat and jumped on my bike,
Only to come back five minutes later holding a knife.
He threatened me and said if I left him that night,
It would be MY fault that he took his life.
Then all of a sudden God sent down an angel to rescue me,
She pulled over in her van, I jumped in, and then I was free.
I found a way home to mom and dad,
I told them of the night I had.
They had no idea what I had been through,
But they were there for me and I knew it too.
Now I am back home and starting a new life,
Amidst all my sorrow, pain, and strife.
But with God's help and from my friends,
I will get back on my feet again.
So as I close this chapter,
I pray God will bless my angels,
And may they live happily ever after.
